Numerical analysis of crack propagation due to rebar corrosion
It is well-known that rebar corrosion due to chloride attack and carbonation can result in a serious degradation of structural performance of concrete structures.
The fracture due to rebar corrosion differs depending on concrete cover and diameter of rebar. In addition, the fracture mode is classified as peeling mode and axial cracking mode.
Especially, in case of axial cracking mode, it is difficult to evaluate and predict the peeling because internal crack propagates from rebar to rebar.
In our laboratory, experimental and analytical approaches are conducted in order to construct the evaluation method for studying cracking propagation behavior due to rebar corrosion. And, corrosion expansion model, in which crack initiation and propagation can be considered, is developed.
・Corrosion layer is modeled at the interface between rebar and concrete
・Expansive strain occurs in proportion to the amount of corrosive products.
